HOW HIGHER SEXUAL SELFESTEEM LEADS TO MORE ASSERTIVENESS IN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIPS enIT FR DE PL TR PT RU JA CN ES

Sexual self-esteem is an individual's overall positive or negative view about their own body, gender identity, sexual orientation, sexual desires and fantasies, and performance during intercourse. It can be measured through surveys, questionnaires, and psychological tests. Assertiveness is the willingness to express one's thoughts, feelings, needs, beliefs, opinions, and values openly without fear of rejection or disapproval from others. It is associated with confidence, self-respect, independence, and courage.

A study conducted in 2019 found that individuals who have higher levels of sexual self-esteem are more likely to exhibit assertive behavior than those with lower levels. The study involved 450 participants between the ages of 18-65 years old and was divided into two groups based on their scores on the Sexual Self-Esteem Scale. One group had high scores, while the other had low scores. They were then asked to participate in role-playing scenarios where they would either assert themselves or remain passive.

The results revealed that those with high levels of sexual self-esteem displayed greater levels of assertiveness during the role-plays compared to those with low levels. This suggests a strong relationship between the two constructs. Another study conducted in 2016 found similar findings.

It can be concluded that individuals with high levels of sexual self-esteem are more likely to demonstrate assertiveness than those with low levels. This could be because they are comfortable with their bodies, desires, and identities, leading them to feel empowered to stand up for themselves in various situations. On the other hand, people with low levels may experience insecurities, which make it challenging to advocate for themselves.

Improving sexual self-esteem through education, therapy, support groups, and positive self-talk can lead to increased assertiveness skills, which can benefit one's personal and professional lives.

More research is needed to explore this connection further.
