I will explore the ways in which visibility through fame can be both performative and political, and discuss whether or not that matters. I argue that although visibility is important, true change requires more than just being seen. We need activists who take action and create real impact, rather than simply broadcasting their beliefs from behind a screen.
Performative Visibility
The term "performative" refers to an act that purports to achieve something but may not actually do so. In other words, it's all talk and no substance. When it comes to visibility through fame, some may argue that having a public platform isn't enough - you must use it to effect real change.
Influencers with millions of followers may post about issues they care about, but if they don't back up those posts with concrete actions, then their visibility becomes performative.
Political Visibility
