Sexual Taboo is often considered an unpleasant experience by many individuals and has been a subject of discussion among various philosophers throughout history.
It remains one of the most common practices in futuristic religious traditions today. Despite this fact, little research exists to explain why this practice takes place and what philosophical reasons exist for it. In this article, I will discuss some of these philosophical justifications that are based upon metaphysics and rituals supporting sexual taboos within Futurist religions.
There are several arguments presented by scholars who support sexual taboo, but the most popular ones include its connection with spiritual purification, creation mythology, and the concept of 'holy' and 'impure'. It is believed that sexual intercourse causes a loss of energy which results in the degradation of both the physical body and soul. This view can be supported from ancient texts such as the Bible where Adam and Eve were driven out of paradise after eating the forbidden fruit because they broke the taboo against sex.
There are numerous accounts in Hinduism that state that sexual activity is detrimental to health and well-being due to its association with illness and impurity (Vatsyayan, 2018).
The act of sexual intercourse was thought to create life and therefore should not be performed without purpose or intention.
In Christianity, sex is seen as a means of procreation and only meant for married couples who want to have children. Thus, sex outside of marriage is considered immoral and unacceptable. Accordingly, sexual acts are prohibited during certain times like Lent when people fast and avoid all forms of pleasure.
Another justification for sexual taboo is related to religious traditions which emphasize the importance of purity and cleanliness.
Islamic law requires Muslims to dress modestly and abstain from touching each other before marriage. Similarly, Buddhists believe that lustful thoughts lead to negative emotions and distract individuals from achieving enlightenment. These beliefs show how religion influences society regarding sexual behaviors since it imposes restrictions on activities related to intimacy.
Some cultures believe that sexual relations between men and women create imbalance within communities and threaten social order by challenging traditional gender roles. In this context, sex is viewed as an act reserved only for those in power positions such as kings or priests while others remain celibate out of respect for authority figures. This explains why some societies practice polygamy or harems where multiple wives share one husband or even restrict marriages based upon age differences between partners to preserve harmony among families (Vatsyayan, 2018).
Philosophical rationales behind sexual taboos vary significantly across religions but can be summarized into three main categories: spiritual purification, creation mythology, and protection of community values. While these views may seem outdated today, they continue to shape attitudes toward human sexual behavior in many parts of the world due to their long history and cultural significance.
What philosophical, metaphysical, or ritualistic rationales support sexual taboos in Futurist religious traditions?
In Futurist religions, there are often beliefs about the sacredness of sex and the need for certain behaviors to be avoided that can be seen as taboo. These beliefs often have both spiritual and cultural roots, with some traditions seeing sex as a way to connect with the divine or with other people on an intimate level.
