Sexualization is the process whereby something becomes sexualized. It involves making something look sexy, sensuous, erotic, seductive, enticing, titillating, stimulating, exciting, suggestive, arousing, provocative, amorous, alluring, carnal, romantic, or otherwise appealing because of its connection to sexuality. This can be done through clothing, body language, words, images, and actions. It often happens unintentionally and without awareness, but it can also be deliberate and calculated.

Sponsors advocate for mentees' professional development, providing opportunities for advancement, networking, promotion, pay increases, or other benefits. Some may be sexually attracted to their mentees/sponsorees, which can cause problems in mentorship and sponsorship.

If a man makes sexual overtures towards his female subordinate, she may become embarrassed, confused, anxious, or angry. If a woman flirts with her boss, he may feel pressured into giving her special treatment or preferential treatment. Either way, the relationship becomes uncomfortable and dysfunctional, affecting productivity and morale.
