They might also be less likely to respect boundaries set by their partners due to the prevalence of nonconsensual acts depicted in movies, television shows, music videos, and other forms of entertainment. This can lead to misunderstandings, hurt feelings, and potentially dangerous situations.
Pleasure
Exposure to sexualized media content can also influence adolescent perceptions of pleasure during sexual encounters. Adolescents who see pornography or other explicit material may come to associate sex with a narrow range of behaviors that prioritize physical gratification over emotional connection or communication. They may feel pressured to perform certain actions or adopt specific positions based on what they have seen in media rather than listening to their own body's cues and preferences. This can reduce their ability to experience genuine intimacy and enjoyment in a relationship.
Relational Expectations

Young people may start to view romantic interactions through the lens of popular culture, where relationships are often portrayed as fleeting or transactional. They may fail to appreciate the value of true intimacy and emotional connection, instead focusing on attaining physical pleasure and instant gratification. This can make it difficult for them to build meaningful long-term relationships later in life.
