Queerness is an umbrella term for people who do not identify with traditional gender norms and expectations. It includes individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, nonbinary, pansexual, and questioning their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Queerness challenges the idea that there are only two genders and that heterosexuality is the norm. This can lead to a rejection of traditional gender roles and expectations, which can interrogate the distinction between performance and authenticity in everyday life and social interactions. In this article, I will discuss how queerness disrupts these distinctions and explores the relationship between performativity and authenticity in everyday life and social interactions.
Queerness disrupts the idea of 'performance' by rejecting the traditional binary of male and female and instead embracing a fluid and non-binary approach to gender. Nonbinary individuals may express themselves through various forms of dress and behavior, blurring the line between 'male' and 'female.'
