Spontaneity
Exposure to erotic films often depicts highly sexualized encounters between individuals that involve frequent initiations, rapid escalation of physical intimacy, and frequent change in positions or locations.
Research suggests that such behavior may not be representative of everyday sexual encounters for many couples. Instead, most sexual encounters tend to be more deliberate and less intense, suggesting a disconnect between reality and expectation. This can lead to frustration and disappointment if one partner expects their partner to act in a similar way during sex. Moreover, while some individuals may desire a degree of spontaneity in their sexual interactions, others may feel pressured to adopt behaviors that are unnatural or uncomfortable.
This can undermine trust, communication, and overall satisfaction within the relationship.
Dominance/Submission
Erotic films frequently portray power dynamics wherein one individual asserts control over another, with varying degrees of forcefulness or coercion. Exposure to erotic media that portrays these behaviors without consent may shape attitudes towards what constitutes acceptable levels of aggression and submission during sex, potentially influencing relational satisfaction.
