Human males have testes that produce sperm and make hormones. Testicles are located outside of the body within a pouch called the scrotum. It does this by alternating between contraction and relaxation of the muscles around the scrotum. Muscles on either side of the scrotum contract and bring it closer to the body. When the testes get too cold, they will withdraw from their current position. Muscles on the bottom of the scrotum then relax and allow it to hang lower, exposing more surface area to heat. This helps maintain a constant temperature for optimal sperm growth.
