Sexualization is a process that involves changing something from being purely biological into being cultural or societal. It can happen when people start to treat something nonsexual like it has sexual connotations, or vice versa.

An action may become more or less sexual depending on who performs it, who observes it, how often it occurs, and under which circumstances. Similarly, certain behaviors or objects might be considered sexy because they are associated with one gender rather than another. Sexualized dynamics refer to the way individuals and groups interact based on their respective roles and expectations within those roles. These interactions affect all aspects of life, including work, education, politics, and social media. They also influence organizational culture, where power structures determine which actions and attitudes are acceptable.

The gender binary refers to the idea that there are just two genders, male and female, which differ significantly from each other along multiple axes such as appearance, behavior, preferences, and interests. Gender role is an individual's expected behavior in relation to this binary system. Social expectation is what society expects people to do based on their gender roles. Organizational culture is the set of beliefs, practices, and values that govern an organization's operations. When these three elements intersect, they create a complex web of rules and norms that shape human interactions. This makes it difficult for people to express themselves freely without fearing judgment or reprisals.

If men are stereotypically supposed to be aggressive and outgoing while women are supposed to be reserved and demure, then someone who acts outside those boundaries may face backlash. If an employer encourages its employees to behave according to these sexist standards, then any employee who deviates from them will find it harder to get promoted or even keep their job.

Some organizations have embraced diversity by recognizing that not everyone fits into this narrow mold. As a result, they offer more opportunities for self-expression and acceptance regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.

A woman might feel uncomfortable asking her boss for help because she assumes he/she would interpret the request as romantic interest instead of professionalism. They also demonstrate how changing one aspect of organizational culture – e.g., hiring policies – can improve things for everyone involved.
