These symptoms can disrupt the survivor's sense of safety and security, leading to further fragmentation of their lived experience.

To counteract these effects, survivors often engage in mindfulness practices such as meditation, breathwork, and yoga. By focusing attention on the present moment and observing bodily sensations without judgment, they are able to reconnect with themselves physically and emotionally. Cognitive restructuring involves challenging negative beliefs about oneself or the world and replacing them with more positive ones. Emotional regulation techniques include identifying and expressing emotions in healthy ways, setting boundaries, and practicing self-compassion. Through these processes, the survivor is able to integrate fragmented durations into a coherent whole, creating a new rhythm for living.
