SEXUALITY AND RELATIONSHIPS: A PHILOSOPHICAL APPROACH THROUGH HINDUISM

Sexuality has been an integral part of human society since time immemorial. Different cultures have different approaches to dealing with this aspect of life, some more open than others.

One thing that is common among all cultures is the belief that there are certain rules that govern the expression of sexual desires between individuals. These rules can vary from culture to culture but generally revolve around the concept of chastity, faithfulness, and monogamy.

In Hinduism, these concepts are encapsulated in the philosophy of Ramayana which holds that sexual ethics should be integrated with social duty and relational fidelity for the overall wellbeing of society. The Rama-centered religious philosophy believes that sexual morality should be based on purity, commitment, love, respect, and mutual fulfillment. This means that both partners must agree to engage in sexual activities with each other without coercion or force.

The philosophy emphasizes that marriage is a sacred institution where individuals come together to share their lives and fulfil their sexual needs while maintaining fidelity. Married couples are expected to engage in physical intimacy within the confines of their relationship and avoid extramarital affairs. Sexual activity outside the bounds of marriage is considered impure and unethical.

There are exceptions to this rule.

If one partner cannot satisfy the sexual needs of the other due to medical conditions such as infertility, then they may seek help from a third party who will not become involved in any way in their relationship. In this case, both parties need to consent to the arrangement and it should not be taken lightly.

Homosexual relationships are not recognized by the philosophy and are considered immoral.

Ramayana also places great importance on parental guidance when it comes to sexual education. Parents should teach their children about the dangers of premarital sex, unwanted pregnancies, STDs, and other risks associated with promiscuous behavior. They should also encourage them to wait until they are ready for marriage before engaging in sexual intercourse.

Ramayana offers a balanced approach to sexual ethics that integrates social duty, relational fidelity, and individual desire into a harmonious whole. By adhering to these principles, individuals can achieve true happiness and satisfaction in their personal and professional lives.

How does Rama-centered religious philosophy integrate sexual ethics with social duty and relational fidelity?

The Rama-centered religion is an ancient Indian spiritual tradition that emphasizes the importance of selfless service, devotion to God, and renunciation of worldly desires. In this context, sexual ethics refers to the moral principles that guide human relationships related to sex and reproduction. Social duty involves adherence to societal norms and obligations while relational fidelity means remaining faithful to one's partner throughout life.
