Historically, LGBT people were forced into the shadows and closets, and this experience has resulted in a powerful set of strategies for resisting oppression. These strategies involve the creation of secret codes, networks, and spaces that challenge the dominant narratives imposed upon them. In this essay, I will argue that silence itself becomes a form of resistance for marginalized communities. By exploring how queer histories can reveal how silence and invisibility themselves become philosophical categories of resistance and existence, we can better understand the importance of these strategies in shaping identity formation.
