Sexual relationships in operational teams are common but often fraught with ethical issues. In this paper, I will discuss some of these issues that arise when team members have romantic or sexual relationships with one another.

There is the issue of favoritism. When team members become involved in a relationship, they may begin to treat each other differently than they would otherwise. This can lead to resentment among other team members who feel left out or mistreated. It also can make it difficult for the team to function effectively because the couple's personal lives may interfere with their work duties.

If one person has to take time off to care for their partner while the rest of the team works, this could create tension within the group.

There is the issue of confidentiality. Couples may share intimate details about themselves and their relationship with one another that they would not typically share with others outside of their relationship. This can create a breach of trust among team members who may feel like they cannot confide in their coworkers without fear of having information leaked to their partners.

Couples may be more likely to gossip about other team members since they now have access to private information.

There is the issue of professionalism. Team members who engage in sexual relationships may find it harder to maintain a professional demeanor around each other. They may be less willing to criticize or challenge each other's work for fear of upsetting their partner. This can lead to poorer quality work overall as well as difficulties in resolving conflicts between team members.

Fourth, there is the issue of fairness. When two people are dating on the same team, one person may receive preferential treatment over others simply because they are dating. This can create feelings of resentment and envy among non-romantic teammates who may feel like they are being excluded or overlooked due to their lack of a romantic relationship.
