SEXUAL ETHICS AND INTRINSIC BEHAVIOR ACROSS CULTURES: A STUDY ON THE IMPACT OF RELIGION

Cross-cultural religious encounters have been known to influence sexual ethics and intimate behavior among individuals from different cultures. Religions play an important role in shaping the values and beliefs of people when it comes to issues such as sex, sexuality, intimacy, and relationships. Different religions place varying degrees of importance on these topics and offer different interpretations of what is acceptable and unacceptable in terms of sexual conduct. This paper will examine how cross-cultural religious encounters impact sexual ethics and intimate behaviors by exploring how different religions view sex, sexuality, and relationships. The research focuses on three major world religions - Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism.

Christianity has strict rules regarding sexual conduct and promotes abstinence before marriage. Christians believe that sex should only occur between married couples who are faithful to each other. Pre-marital sex is considered sinful and punishable by God. Marriage is seen as a sacred union between a man and a woman, which includes physical intimacy. Christians also believe that sex should be enjoyable for both partners but should not be the sole purpose of their relationship.

Islam considers sexuality as a natural aspect of life and encourages married couples to engage in healthy sexual relations within the confines of marriage. Muslims believe that sex is a divine gift from Allah and is meant to be enjoyed by spouses.

There are certain restrictions on pre-marital sex, homosexuality, and adultery. Muslim men may have up to four wives at once, while women are allowed to marry only one husband. Islamic law dictates that men and women should dress modestly and avoid public displays of affection outside of marriage.

Buddhism views sex as a necessary part of life but sees it as something that can cause attachment, desire, and suffering. Buddhists emphasize self-control, moderation, and detachment when it comes to sex. They encourage monogamy and discourage casual sex, infidelity, and prostitution. Buddhist teachings suggest that people should practice celibacy if they cannot control their desires or feelings towards others.

Cross-cultural religious encounters have a significant impact on sexual ethics and intimate behavior among individuals. Different religions offer varying interpretations of what is acceptable and unacceptable regarding sex, sexuality, and relationships. Understanding these differences can help foster mutual respect and understanding between individuals from different cultures who hold differing beliefs about sex.
