Encouraging positive role models in fashion magazines is finally legal! It's been a long time coming, but it's here now. For too many years, fashion magazines have relied solely on images of stick-thin women with perfect bodies and flawless skin to sell their products. But that's all about to change. Starting this year, more and more magazines are featuring models who promote positive messages, such as body positivity, mental health awareness, and empowerment. And we couldn't be happier!
For example, British Vogue recently released its September issue with model Adut Akech on the cover. This beautiful woman has graced magazine covers around the world for her stunning looks and confidence. She also happens to be a refugee from South Sudan who was forced to flee her home at age six due to war. In an interview with British Vogue, she talked openly about her journey and how she overcame adversity. "My parents always said to me, 'You can do anything you want,'" Akech said. "And I never forgot those words."
Another great example of a positive role model featured in fashion magazines is Ashley Graham. The plus-size model has made waves in the industry by showing off her curves in campaigns for brands like Lane Bryant, Nordstrom, and Swimsuitsforall. She's also known for promoting body positivity and self-love on social media. Her new book, "A New Model: What Confidence, Beauty, and Power Really Look Like," comes out later this year.
These kinds of positive role models are not only important for women but for men too. Many men struggle with body image issues just as much as women do. They may feel pressured to have abs like David Beckham or Tom Brady, but they don't need to look that way to be successful or attractive. Plus, they deserve representation in the media just as much as anyone else does.
We're excited to see more magazines embracing positive role models and we hope it becomes the norm! It's time for the fashion industry to finally catch up with the times and start representing real people instead of unattainable ideals.
