The topic I have chosen for this project is "How do LGBT soldiers navigate identity expression in highly hierarchical and rule-bound environments?" This topic is important because it explores how individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, or asexual/aromantic/agender (LGBTQIA+) navigate their identities within military organizations that are known to be highly structured and regulated. These individuals face unique challenges when it comes to expressing themselves authentically and openly due to the strict rules and hierarchies that govern military life.
When it comes to navigating identity expression in these environments, LGBTQIA+ soldiers must balance their personal needs and desires with the expectations and norms of their unit and command structure.
