LGBTQ+ VETERANS EXPLORE UNIQUE SEXUAL EXPERIENCES DESPITE CHALLENGES

2 min read Bisexual

LGBTQ+ veterans have reported having very diverse and unique sexual and intimate experiences due to their gender identity and sexual orientation, which differs from heterosexual people's experiences. They may have experienced more sexual encounters, explored different types of sexual activities, and had more satisfying sexual partners.

They also faced challenges such as discrimination and rejection due to their sexual orientation and gender identity. This essay aims to discuss the distinctive nature of LGBTQ+ veterans' sexual and intimate lives.

LGBTQ+ veterans have reported experiencing a broader range of sexual encounters than their heterosexual counterparts, including same-sex encounters, non-binary gendered encounters, polyamorous relationships, BDSM, swinging, kink, and fetishism. This is because they were able to explore their sexuality freely without fear of judgment or societal pressure. Some of them even participated in orgies and group sex. They reported feeling liberated and empowered when engaging in these activities.

Some still faced social stigma for being open about their sexuality.

Another distinct feature of LGBTQ+ veterans' sexual life was the use of language that reflects their sexual orientation and gender identity.

They used terms like "top" and "bottom," which refer to penetrative roles during anal sex. They also used words like "queer," "non-binary," and "pansexual" to describe themselves. They believed that this language helped them express their true selves and connect with other LGBTQ+ individuals.

Many LGBTQ+ veterans engaged in non-penetrative sex acts like mutual masturbation, body massage, roleplaying, teasing, foreplay, and bondage. These activities allowed them to experiment with their boundaries and preferences without committing fully. Some even expressed their gender through clothing, makeup, and hairstyles. Others explored different types of intimacy such as cuddling, holding hands, kissing, hugging, and making out.

Unfortunately, LGBTQ+ veterans experienced rejection and discrimination due to their sexual orientation and gender identity. Some felt that society did not accept them, leading to feelings of isolation and loneliness. Others were refused access to healthcare services related to their sexuality or gender identity. This made it challenging to navigate their sexual lives safely and freely. Despite these difficulties, most LGBTQ+ veterans reported having positive experiences overall.

What unique sexual and intimate experiences are reported by LGBTQ+ veterans?

LGBTQ+ veterans have reported a range of sexual and intimate experiences that differ from those of their heterosexual counterparts due to cultural stigmas and military policies surrounding LGBTQ+ issues. While some have shared stories of finding comfort in their identities while serving, others have described feeling isolated and fearful of exposure due to discriminatory laws. Additionally, many have discussed exploring new relationships after leaving the military as they reenter civilian life.
