INVESTIGATING THE ROLE OF RELATIONSHIP STABILITY IN SHAPING SEXUAL SATISFACTION ACROSS AGE GROUPS

The study aimed to investigate how sexual satisfaction correlates with general life satisfaction across different age groups and examine the mediating effects of perceived relationship stability and gender differences on this relationship.

Method: Participants were recruited from diverse age groups (18-25, 26-40, 41-60) using snowball sampling methods. Sexual satisfaction was measured using the Global Measure of Sexual Satisfaction (GMSS) scale, and general life satisfaction was assessed using the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS). The research design involved a cross-sectional survey approach, with data collection taking place online. Data analysis utilized hierarchical linear regression models and mediation tests.

Findings:

Older participants reported lower levels of sexual satisfaction than younger ones, but there were no significant gender differences between age groups.

Female participants consistently reported higher levels of general life satisfaction regardless of age. The results showed that while sexual satisfaction was positively associated with general life satisfaction, it only accounted for 3% of the variance in happiness across all age groups. The effect size was larger for women than men and significantly higher for those aged 18-25 than other age groups. Perceived relationship stability also played a role, as individuals who felt secure in their relationships tended to report greater satisfaction in both domains.

Discussion: These findings suggest that while sexual satisfaction is important in promoting overall well-being, its impact may differ depending on age and gender. Moreover, maintaining stable and healthy romantic relationships can enhance both areas of one's life. Future studies should examine the specific mechanisms underlying these associations and explore how they vary by individual characteristics such as sexual orientation or relationship type.

This study highlights the complex interplay between sexuality and life satisfaction, emphasizing the need for comprehensive interventions that address both dimensions simultaneously.

How does sexual satisfaction correlate with general life satisfaction across different age groups, and what mediating factors explain the strength of this relationship?

According to research, there is a positive correlation between sexual satisfaction and general life satisfaction across different age groups. This means that individuals who are satisfied with their sex lives tend to be more satisfied with their overall lives as well. The strength of this relationship varies depending on various individual and relational factors, such as age, gender identity, sexual orientation, relationship status, and cultural context.
