The presence of sexual attraction can affect how leaders are evaluated and viewed by their subordinates. In many cases, leaders who possess certain qualities deemed desirable by society, such as good looks or charisma, tend to receive higher ratings from followers compared to those who do not.

Studies show that leaders with attractive facial features and physiques tend to be rated higher on measures of leader effectiveness than their less attractive counterparts (Burke & Cooper, 2018; Zhang et al., 2015). This phenomenon is known as "physical attractiveness stereotyping," where people make judgments about someone based on their appearance without considering other factors such as competence or experience (Ferris et al., 2016).

Authority Perception

Sexual attraction can also influence how authority is perceived in organizations. When leaders use sexualized language or behaviors towards subordinates, it creates an imbalance of power dynamics within the organization and challenges traditional notions of hierarchy and professionalism (Walters & Stark, 2003; Sullivan & Byrne, 2009).

Studies have found that women who report experiencing sexual harassment from supervisors tend to leave their jobs earlier than those who do not (Hall, 2018; Walters & Stark, 2003). Moreover, these experiences negatively impact job satisfaction and performance (Tedeschi et al., 2017).
