HOW RELIGIOUS BELIEFS IMPACT VIEWS ON SEXUAL GRATIFICATION IN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIPS

Sexual Duty vs Personal Gratification

Sexuality has always been an important part of human life since ancient times. It's been a taboo subject for ages; however, people are more open to discussing it nowadays. In this article, I will talk about how society frames sexual activities as religious duties instead of personal gratifications.

The majority of religions do have different views on sexuality, whether for pleasure or procreation. Some religions believe that sex is unclean and should be avoided altogether while others allow it but strictly regulate it.

Christianity prohibits premarital sex while Islam permits it within marriage. Religion affects the way we view sex, even though its primary purpose isn't meant to be solely for physical pleasures. Instead, we should see it as something special between partners who care deeply about each other rather than mere fulfillment of desires.

Most cultures treat sex as a duty towards their spouses rather than a source of joy. Married couples often perceive intercourse as an act of obligation toward one another rather than intimate connection. This attitude can lead to low satisfaction in relationships due to lack of passion during intercourse. Some studies suggest that there is no correlation between marital satisfaction and frequency of sex, meaning that couples may feel pressured into having sex just because they think they ought to without actually enjoying it. That means religious values might make us view sexual acts primarily as an obligation rather than a pleasurable experience.

Many religions encourage celibacy before marriage, which implies abstaining from any form of sexual activity.

Some people argue that such rules contribute to higher levels of promiscuity after marriage since people don't know how to express themselves properly in terms of their natural needs and urges until they are married. The culture also puts pressure on individuals not to explore their sexuality, leading to repression and frustration.

Society views sex from a moralistic perspective rather than considering it as a personal gratification. We need to reframe our perception of sex as a sacred act shared between two partners instead of seeing it as a chore or taboo.
