What is Queer Aesthetics?
Queer Aesthetics is an emerging field of study that investigates how marginalized identities intersect with creative expression. It involves exploring how art, literature, music, fashion, and design challenge traditional understandings of gender, sexuality, race, class, and ability. Its aim is to deconstruct power structures and privilege by subverting dominant narratives through creative means.
Interrogating the Body
Queer Aesthetics interrogates the body in several ways. One way is by challenging binary categories such as male/female, straight/gay, cisgender/transgender, and able-bodied/disabled. It also looks at how bodies are shaped by social norms, politics, and culture.
