HOW DOES SEXUAL COMPATIBILITY INFLUENCE PERCEIVED FAIRNESS, EQUALITY, AND EMOTIONAL SATISFACTION WITHIN PARTNERSHIPS? enIT FR DE PL TR PT RU AR JA ES

The study sought to explore how sexual compatibility influences perceived fairness, equality, and emotional satisfaction within partnerships. It involved three researchers from different countries who designed an empirical investigation using qualitative methods. They gathered data from couples where at least one partner had experienced gender dysphoria, transgenderism, cross-dressing, or nonbinary identity during their relationship history. They conducted interviews that lasted up to four hours and collected both quantitative and qualitative data, such as surveys, diaries, journals, and written assignments. The findings were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. This article summarizes the results of the analysis.

Sexual compatibility refers to the degree to which partners' sexual preferences match each other's preferences. In this context, it includes physical attraction, romantic affection, sexual desires, and erotic interests. Research has shown that sexual compatibility can impact partnership satisfaction, stability, commitment, and longevity.

There is limited knowledge about how it relates to perceptions of fairness, equality, and emotional fulfillment.

The study found that sexual incompatibility was associated with higher levels of conflict, less intimacy, and lower levels of trust. Partners reported feeling frustrated, disappointed, or angry when their needs were not met. They also felt guilty, ashamed, or embarrassed for not being able to satisfy their partner.

These feelings could lead to resentment, mistrust, and distance, leading to relationship instability and breakdown.

The lack of mutual understanding and acceptance led to a sense of unfairness and inequality within the partnership. Partners struggled to communicate openly and honestly about their sexual needs and preferences, creating barriers to intimacy and connection. They felt unsupported, undervalued, or disrespected, resulting in emotional dissatisfaction and loneliness. This was particularly true for non-binary individuals who experienced rejection, invalidation, or exclusion due to societal norms.

The findings highlight the importance of addressing sexual compatibility in relationships. It helps create an environment of mutual respect, understanding, and support, leading to greater perceived fairness, equality, and emotional satisfaction. Partners need to be willing to discuss their sexual desires, needs, and boundaries openly and honestly to avoid misunderstandings, conflicts, and negative emotions.

Society should recognize and celebrate diverse sexual identities and expressions, promoting inclusivity, equity, and happiness.
