Catholicism
In Catholicism, the official teaching is that sex should be reserved for marriage. Sexual intercourse before marriage is considered sinful and immoral because it is not God's plan. The Church teaches that couples should abstain from sex unless they are married. Marriage is a sacred union between one man and one woman; therefore, homosexual relationships are forbidden. According to Catholic doctrine, sex should be procreative and unitive. Procreation means having children and uniting with your partner as a couple. This perspective leads to the conclusion that other forms of sexual activity such as masturbation, same-sex acts, and contraceptive use are sinful and wrong. People who engage in these activities are excluded from full participation in the Catholic community, including receiving sacraments like Eucharist or confession.
The idea of sexual pleasure outside of marriage is condemned by the Catholic Church. Catholics believe that physical satisfaction comes only after spiritual communion with God through prayer and meditation. Therefore, sex is just a biological act that can become sacred if it is open to life, leading to new generations of believers. Couples must avoid using birth control methods and embrace the possibility of bearing children whenever they have sex.
