It has also become a hub for people looking to explore their sexual desires outside of traditional boundaries. Erotic fan communities, which are groups dedicated to discussing and sharing explicit material related to romance and sex, have emerged within Facebook's confines. These groups offer a safe haven for individuals seeking to explore their sexual identities without judgment from society at large.
The research question that this study aims to answer is how do erotic fan communities navigate moral judgement, secrecy, and identity while fostering desire exploration? This question will be explored through an analysis of several factors such as community rules, online etiquette, communication norms, and privacy concerns.
This study seeks to understand how these communities address power dynamics between participants and promote healthy relationships within the group.
Methodology
This study utilizes a qualitative approach, specifically in-depth interviews with members of various erotic fan communities on Facebook. The sample size was limited due to the sensitive nature of the topic; therefore, all participants were asked to sign confidentiality agreements before the interview process began. Interviews lasted approximately one hour each and were recorded using software designed explicitly for this purpose. All data collected was transcribed verbatim and coded using NVivo10+ software.
Moral Judgment
Moral judgment can be challenging when discussing sexual topics publicly or even with close friends.
