1. Introduction
Communal worship is an important aspect of life for many individuals, including LGBTQ people. Participation in communal worship can influence emotional regulation, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging among LGBTQ individuals, but there are different factors that need to be considered. This study aims to investigate how these variables are impacted by participation in communal worship. The research methodology will include surveys, interviews, and observational data from religious services. The results will provide insights into the effects of communal worship on LGBTQ individuals.
2. Methodology
The methodology used in this study involves collecting survey data from participants who identify as LGBTQ and attend religious services regularly. Questions about emotional regulation, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging were asked, along with questions about their experience with communal worship. In addition, interviews were conducted with members of LGBTQ communities who have attended religious services to gather qualitative data on the same topics.
Observations were made at several religious services to document the atmosphere and how it affected those present.
3. Results
The results suggest that participation in communal worship can positively influence emotional regulation, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging among LGBTQ individuals. Those who reported attending religious services regularly had higher levels of emotional regulation than those who did not attend or infrequently attended. Similarly, those who reported higher levels of self-esteem also tended to attend religious services more frequently.
The atmosphere created during religious services was found to be conducive to a greater sense of belonging for LGBTQ individuals.
4. Discussion
These findings suggest that participation in communal worship may play an important role in the wellbeing of LGBTQ individuals. The benefits of attending religious services are clear, but there are also potential drawbacks such as feelings of exclusion or stigma from other members of the congregation. Future research should explore these factors further to better understand the impact of communal worship on LGBTQ individuals.
How does participation in communal worship influence emotional regulation, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging among LGBTQ individuals?
Participation in communal worship can have a significant impact on the emotional regulation, self-esteem, and sense of belonging among LGBTQ individuals. Research has shown that religious communities often stigmatize individuals who identify as LGBTQ, leading to feelings of shame, guilt, and fear (McKinley & Roberts, 2015).
