AUTHENTIC RELATIONSHIPS: HOW QUEER BELIEVERS DEFINE PURITY THROUGH NONMONOGAMY enIT FR DE PL PT RU AR JA CN ES

2 min read Queer

Purity is traditionally understood as abstaining from sexual relations outside of marriage. This includes having no physical contact with someone who is not one's spouse, including touching them or even looking at them too closely. Chastity is seen as a way to maintain holiness and avoid sin. But for many people, these ideas can be restrictive and harmful. Queer believers have developed their own understanding of purity that focuses on authenticity rather than chastity. They believe that true purity comes from being true to oneself and pursuing genuine connections with others based on mutual respect, trust, and love.

One way queer believers redefine purity is through non-monogamous relationships. Polyamory is when a person has more than one romantic relationship at once. It allows each partner to explore different aspects of themselves without fear of shame or judgment. Monogamy limits one's ability to grow spiritually and emotionally by forcing them to suppress certain desires or identify solely as gay/straight instead of bisexual/pansexual/asexual/demisexual etc. Polyamory also challenges traditional gender roles which emphasize masculinity and femininity while ignoring fluidity within both genders. By embracing all forms of attraction, polyamorous people experience greater self-acceptance and acceptance from others.

Another way queer believers redefine purity is through kink. Kinks are sexual interests or behaviors that go beyond vanilla sex. BDSM (bondage/discipline, dominance/submission, sadism/masochism) is an example where one partner takes control over the other in order to create pleasure or pain. Kinks can help build intimacy between partners who may otherwise feel alienated due to societal expectations for what constitutes normalcy. This could involve roleplaying scenarios such as power exchange, humiliation play, or even punishment games that require trust and communication skills for successful execution.

Queer believers often prioritize consent above all else. Consent means agreeing on boundaries before engaging in any activity together - whether it be sexual or not. Without clear rules set up ahead of time, there could be misunderstandings about expectations leading to hurt feelings down the line. Communication is key here because everyone deserves respect regardless of their identity or background. It also helps avoid exploitation since no one should ever take advantage of someone else's vulnerability by pressuring them into something they don't want to do.

How do queer believers redefine purity in terms of authenticity rather than chastity?

Queer believers often challenge traditional definitions of sexual morality that emphasize abstinence and strict adherence to gender norms. Instead, they may seek to define their own personal boundaries and values around sex and relationships based on factors such as mutual respect, consent, and self-awareness, rather than rigid rules or external expectations.
